Abstract
⺠We investigate the emergence of rare events during the Raman fiber amplification. ⺠The statistical properties of the signal are influenced by walk-off and depletion. ⺠We calculate analytically the probability density function of the amplified signal. ⺠Experiments carried out at telecommunication wavelengths validate our conclusions.
