Abstract
The nonlinearity of hydroxy-azo dye doped liquid crystals is investigated and the effect of tautomerism is considered. The results indicate that, the nonlinearity of guest-host system can be affected by control of phototautomerism and incident light modulation. In special conditions, the variation of nonlinearity can be stable, so it can generate a stable refractive index pattern because of the optical reorientation of liquid crystal molecules.
