Abstract
The rate equations and power evolution equations of Dy3+-doped fiber amplifiers (DDFA) are proposed, and numerically analyzed. Based on the numerical analysis, several major characteristics of the fiber amplifier are calculated and compared with those of Pr3+-doped fiber amplifier (PDFA). The results show that DDFA can achieve better efficiency and wider gain bandwidth than PDFA.
