Abstract
Group delay ripple in chirped fiber Bragg gratings distorts and/or generates satellite pulses depending on the specific nature (period and phase) of the ripple. Usually, this ripple is an undesirable by-product of the manufacturing process, comprising both a random and deterministic spectrum of ripple Fourier components. We demonstrate the ability to convert a single pulse into a custom pulse burst via introduction of tailored group delay ripple. We investigate these pulse bursts, for various ripple parameters, with frequency resolved optical gating. The results show good agreement with simulations.
