Abstract
We study paraxial scalar waves with nonpositive definite Wigner functions lacking a ray description compatible with geometrical optics. We analyze some measures of the negativity of the Wigner function relating the amount of negativity with wave phenomena incompatible with geometrical optics, such as diffraction and interference.
