Abstract
⺠The symmetry properties of the modes in two-dimensional square photonic crystals are investigating with particularly attention to search of the uncoupled modes. ⺠Existence of the uncoupled modes enabled to define new physics phenomena: uncoupled photonic band gaps. ⺠Inside uncoupled photonic band gaps zero transmission is obtained. ⺠Uncoupled photonic band gaps could improve application of the existing photonic materials and structures or enable the usage of new ones for devices like waveguides, filters, and lasers.
