Abstract

Herein, three-dimensional optical metamaterials consisting of metal-dielectric stacks are fabricated using a bottom-up approach. In this method, silver dendritic nanostructure was prepared as “meta-atom”, and then stacked up multilayered structure with dielectric films. Morphology of the metamaterials was examined by scanning electron microscopy. These bulk metamaterials exhibit pass-bands at optical frequencies and the slab focusing experiment reveals a clear point image. From a practical point of view, our findings point to a simpler avenue to fabricate thick, low-loss metamaterials.

Research highlights▶ Metamaterials are fabricated using a conventional approach. ▶ Particular magnify-focusing effect is realized. ▶ Size of the samples is in scale of hundreds square millimeter.
