Abstract
⺠The second variation of the free energy of one-dimensional curvature elastic model is obtained in a general case. ⺠The stability condition for a one-dimensional elastic ring is obtained in a general case. ⺠Unstable elastic rings will change to nonplanar shapes. ⺠Stability analysis in a typical DNA model is in good agreement the experimental observations in a wide parameter range.
