Homogenous incorporation of SnO2 nanoparticles in carbon cryogels via the thermal decomposition of stannous sulfate and their enhanced lithium-ion intercalation properties

► A strategy based on SnSO4 is developed to prepare carbon cryogels-SnO2 composites. ► SnO2 nanoparticles are homogenously incorporated into the pores of carbon cryogels. ► Carbon cryogels with high porosity are of benefit for the loading of SnO2. ► The structure of particles in pores is useful for the transfer of electron and Li+.
