Abstract
The melting behavior of Cr5Si3 was redetermined from micrographs of as-cast alloys. It is found that this phase melts incongruently into L+Cr3Si rather than congruently, as generally accepted. The previous thermodynamic description of the Cr–Si binary system is adjusted to account for this new finding.
