Abstract
A two-part discussion of the B–Hf–Ni system by CALPHAD and Experimental methods is presented which shows how efficient application of the results can lead to a greater understanding of the behavior as well as insight into the direction of future research. This Part 1 is devoted to the calculation of the ternary sections of the B–Hf–Ni phase diagram at various temperatures, which are of special interest for the experimental work presented in Part 2, together with the evaluation of specific isopleths, to support the interpretation of solidification phenomena of the alloys used in the experimental part and of the resulting room temperature structures.
