Abstract
In this paper, an efficient tabulation technique is developed that enables an accurate description of the solidification path for multi-component alloys, which is an essential and difficult part of multi-scale solidification modeling during casting. This technique is built on the platform of CALPHAD software. Its efficiency and accuracy are demonstrated by applying the tabulation technique to an open microsegregation model, i.e. a model describing solidification path of a system with both thermal and solutal exchange with its environment. Its applicability to the simulation of solidification encountered in direct-chill casting is also demonstrated.
