Abstract
A complete thermodynamic description of the Ca-Ga system is needed to understand the thermodynamic behavior of GaN single crystal growth by the flux method. Using the CALPHAD technique, the phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of the binary Ca-Ga system were explored with existing experimental data on phase boundaries and thermochemical measurements in the solid phases. The nine intermetallic phases, Ca3Ga,Ca5Ga2,Ca2Ga,CaGa,Ca2Ga3,CaGa2,Ca3Ga8,Ca25Ga59(CaGa2.36) and CaGa4, were modeled as the stoichiometric compounds. Good agreement was obtained between the calculated results and the experimental data.
