Abstract
► A continuum damage mechanics model for steel under cyclic straining is proposed. ► Viscoplasticity, hardening, a strain memory surface and ductile damage are modelled. ► To overcome the pathological mesh dependence an nonlocal extension is used. ► A global damage indicator reveals the overall structural stability. ► Results are presented for a 3D structure under seismic loading.
