Abstract
An analytical model for the gas flow produced by a close coupled atomization assembly is described. The algorithm is based on physical arguments and it fully accounts for the expansion of compressible gas from cylindrical gas jets and the convergence/divergence of the subsequent turbulent flow. A critical input parameter of the model, the radius of the convergence area of the individual jet flows, established elsewhere [G. Antipas, PhD Thesis, University of Surrey, UK, 1995] to be 3 mm by high speed photography, is in tight agreement with the predictions of the model. Pitot tube gas velocity measurements compared well with model predictions.
