Abstract

Poly vinyl alcohol doped with Crystal violet and carbol fuchsine films were prepared using dipping method. The spectral behavior and the effects of dose on the absorption coefficient α, optical energy gap, refractive index and extinction coefficient were investigated. The optical energy gap estimated and found to be 1.85 eV and 1.65 at 70 Gy for Direct transition for PVA/CF and PVA/CF + CV respectively and 1.52 eV and 1.5 at 70 Gy for indirect transition for PVA/CF and PVA/CF + CV respectively. The absorption spectra were measured using UV–Visible spectrophotometer in the wave length range (300–700) nm, resulting in a decrease of the absorbance at 560 nm with increasing dose.
