Abstract

The effects of β and TRIPLEX heat treatment on the microstructure, tensile properties and creep behavior of in situ synthesized (TiB + La2O3)/Ti composite were studied. The microstructure of specimens after β heat treatment is widmanstätten, while that after TRIPLEX heat treatment is basketweave in prior β grain. The sizes of β grain and α + β colony of specimens after TRIPLEX heat treatment are smaller than those after β heat treatment. Compared with those after β heat treatment, the high temperature tensile properties of specimens after TRIPLEX heat treatment are improved significantly, but the creep properties are reduced slightly, which is attributed to the change of microstructure after heat treatment.

► The material is in situ synthesized (TiB + La2O3)/Ti composite. ► A new TRIPLEX (β3) heat treatment (HT) method is adopted. ► High temperature properties of β3 HT are greater than those of β HT. ► Reinforcement can improve high temperature properties.
