Abstract
Growth temperatures of α-Al, intermetallic Ï and eutectic α +Â Ï phases in Al-12 wt.% Zn 6 wt.% Mg alloy has been determined as a function of growth velocity in the range of 3 Ã 10â 5 to 1 Ã 10â 3 m/s at a temperature gradient of 2500 K/m, using a directional solidification technique. The experimental results are found to be in good agreement with predictions of growth temperatures of competing constituents for multicomponent systems.
