Abstract
This study investigates the effect of thermomechanical processing on grain boundary character distribution (GBCD) in Hastelloy X alloy. The deformation ratio and annealing condition were adjusted to achieve optimum process performance. The experimental results showed that low prestrain provided appropriate driving force for coincidence site lattice (CSL) boundary regeneration through static recovery process. The short-time annealing treatment at high temperature was performed to obtain optimized GBCD and control grain growth. The fraction of special boundaries reached 72% and the random boundary network was significantly dispersive.
