Abstract
The acoustic emission (AE) method has been used for the in-situ investigations of the mechanical properties of an AJ51 magnesium alloy, reinforced with short Saffil® fibers, in compression mode and at room temperature. It is shown that the frequency analysis of the AE signals could reveal changes in the deformation processes caused by the presence of reinforcing fibers, as well as by the onset of cracks in them.
