Abstract
► Internal load transfer and compressive damage in an interpenetrating composite is studied. ► Unloading and reloading in tension initiates damage in alumina phase. ► Load reversal causes Bauschinger effect in aluminium solid solution. ► Compressive damage occurs by cracks at 45° through the ceramic rich regions.
