Abstract
► Formation of TiAl3 was elucidated by a theoretical model. ► Its formation was accompanied with an order-disorder transition. ► Growth of TiAl3 followed the parabolic growth between 600 °C and 650 °C. ► Its growth was dominated by the diffusion of Ti in TiAl3 phase. ► Introduction of TiB2 particles had little influence on the growth of TiAl3 layer.
