► We use three different polyethylenes of different molecular structures. ► We measure their density and crystallinity as characterization purpose. ► We examine their dynamic compression characteristic under high strain rate loading. ► Molecular structure of polyethylene affects its compressive properties. ► Proposed models give reliable and good interpretation of the experimental results.
