► The DRX mechanisms of a Mg AZ31 sheet at impact rates depend on the texture. ► DDRX predominates during compression along the rolling and normal directions. ► CDRX is enhanced during tension along the rolling direction. ► The activation of pyramidal 〈c + a〉 slip favors the occurrence of DDRX. ► Twinning has a beneficial effect on dynamic recrystallization at impact rates.
