Abstract
⺠Evaluate use of solid bulk Nitinol as a potential material for hip replacements. ⺠At 400 MPa, Nitinol has an endurance limit greater than 10 million cycles. ⺠Below 445 MPa [1 1 1] textured specimens last longer than [1 1 0] textured specimens. ⺠Above 445 MPa, it switches and both fail relatively quickly around 400,000 cycles. ⺠Impact toughness - Charpy: 4 ft-lbs ± 3%, CT: 20-31 MPaâm.
