Abstract
ⶠGrain structure development is mainly governed by discontinuous recrystallization. Continuous recrystallization and subgrain coalescence also takes place. The global straining state is close to a simple shear with the shear surface approximately along a truncated cone having a diameter close to the tool shoulder at the upper part of stir zone and the pin diameter at the stir zone root. The textural pattern in the stir zone is a mixture of 1 1 1 and 1 1 0 partial fiber textures.
