Abstract
The effect of modification and aging treatment on mechanical property of Mg2Si/Al composite was investigated. It was showed that the primary Mg2Si phase changed from dendrite to polygon, while the eutectic phase changed to fine dot-like after the composites were modified and aged. The peak-aged unmodified composite had an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 190Â MPa with an elongation of 1.08%, while the UTS of the modified composite was 249Â MPa with an elongation of 1.35%. The tensile strength and elongation of modified composites increased 31.1% and 25%, respectively. The reasons for that increase are discussed.
