Abstract
The large-size Al-Mg alloy square preforms were prepared by spray deposition. A novel densification technology, termed as wedge pressing (WP), was developed to compact the as-deposited preforms. The wedge pressing process was characteristic of localized deformation and multi-step small deformation, which could be accumulated into large deformation. The porous large-size spray-deposited square preforms could be effectively compacted by this process. Microstructural evolutions and mechanical properties of the alloys experienced different thickness reduction were studied, and the fracture behavior was also analyzed.
