Abstract

This presentation deals with the mathematical–physical expression of mechanical relation of foamed metals under uniaxial and biaxial loads. The behavior of tension and compression is of most basic property of engineering materials. Foamed metal is a class of excellent engineering materials with dual attributes of structural and functional characteristics, the behaviors of uniaxial compression and biaxial tension–compression are investigated for these materials, and the different responding ways are further analyzed in this manuscript. Combining the research results of properties of uniaxial and biaxial tensions of these materials, the uniform mathematical–physical expression is gained for the foamed metals under uniaxial and biaxial loads of collective tension and compression. Besides, the present research also indicates that, the porous material can endure a larger load of compression than that of tension for the same foamed metal under uniaxial or biaxial loads.
