Abstract
The effects of of C addition on microstructure and properties of Ni–Si–Cr ternary alloys were investigated. The alloys were fabricated using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) casting route. It was found that C was mainly presented in the form of solid solution and CrXCY hard particles (Cr23C6 and Cr7C3). Microstructure and properties of the alloys varied with the C fraction. The alloy containing 1.14 at.% C showed fine and uniform microstructure. Bending strength, compressive strength and fracture toughness of the alloys reached the maximum value in 1.14 at.% C.
