Abstract
Electro-discharge-sintering (EDS) was applied to consolidate mechanical alloyed Ti–37.5 at.% Si powder mixture without applying any external pressure. These powders were consolidated into a solid bulk of Ti5Si3 in less than 160 μs by discharging a high voltage, high density current pulse through the powder column. A value of the lattice parameter for the consolidated Ti5Si3 compact was calculated as a = 7.42 Å and c = 5.17 Å, indicating that there is no compositional deviation after a discharge.
