Abstract
Copper tube billets were horizontal continuously cast with the application of a rotating electromagnetic field outside the mold. Effects of input coil current intensity on the structure, tensile strength and surface quality were systematically investigated and discussed. The results show that with the imposition of rotating electromagnetic field, finer and more homogeneous solidification structures can be obtained. Accordingly, the tensile properties are evidently enhanced and the optimum coil current is 100 A. Moreover, the correlation between coil current and depth of oscillation marks was also studied and analyzed.
