Abstract

By using Y2O3 powder, instead of Al2O3, acting as filler, the Y2O3 was successfully dispersed in the outer layer of aluminide coatings. After oxidation, the transformation from Θ to α-alumina formed on the aluminide coatings using different fillers and the initial oxidation rate kinetics related to the alumina phase formed have been investigated. The results showed that the oxidation rate of Y2O3-dispersed aluminide coating in the initial 10 h was about five times than that of Al2O3-dispersed aluminide coating. The tendency of the formation different alumina phases was also elucidated.
