Abstract

Production of (Ti,V)C in Fe matrix by powder metallurgy and in situ reactive synthesis technology was investigated. Samples with various V/Ti atomic ratios were produced. The microstructure of the Fe–(Ti,V)C composites was studied with the help of SEM, EDS and XRD. Experimental results show that Fe–(Ti,V)C composites can be produced by this technology. The (Ti,V)C particles exhibit fine size and homogeneous distribution in α-Fe matrix. Additionally, with the increasing of V/Ti atomic ratio, the lattice parameter of (Ti,V)C decreases linearly, and morphology of (Ti,V)C particles transforms from irregular to spherical.
