Abstract
Superfine Mg(OH)2 particles were synthesized by a hydrating method of MgO made from the decomposition of magnesite in alkali solutions at low temperatures. These Mg(OH)2 particles have platelet shape and their sizes range from 100 to 200 nm. The crystal phase, particle size distribution and morphology of the crystal particle were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The hydration mechanism of MgO under alkali conditions was also examined.
