Abstract
I describe a simple physics-based relationship for describing and predicting the temperature dependence of solid-state sound velocities and elastic constants. Originating in an Einstein-oscillator model, the relationship applies to essentially all solid types: successful uses range from monocrystal diamond, various elemental polycrystals, through multiphase steels, to epoxy-matrix composites.
