Abstract

The effect of hydrogen charging on plastic deformation of electroless Ni–P amorphous coating has been studied through indentation test. The results showed that hydrogen enhanced localized plastic deformation, the size of plastic zone of indentations on the surface and subsurface increased with hydrogen concentration for pre-charged coating, however, the shear bands and size of plastic zone did not change during hydrogen charging for unloaded indentations. The yield strength decreased with increasing of hydrogen concentration.
