Abstract
The high-temperature friction and wear properties of BaSO4 and SrSO4 powder films prepared on Al2O3 and stainless steel (SUS 316) substrates were investigated. Both the BaSO4 and SrSO4 powder films formed on the Al2O3 substrates exhibited the average friction coefficients lower than 0.4 at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 1073 K in air. In particular, flake-shaped BaSO4 powder films formed on Al2O3 substrates exhibited more stable and lower friction coefficients than lump-shaped BaSO4 powder films. Additionally, it was confirmed that SUS 316 substrates coated with BaSO4–10 mass% Ag films exhibited the average friction coefficients between 0.2 and 0.4 at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 1073 K in air.
