Abstract
Internal stresses developed during deformation are defined and its measurement described. Its applications in work hardening and the ductility of polymers are illustrated. The internal stress developed under an indenter is shown to agree with the results from conventional tests. The development of internal stress under an indenter can be used to determine deformation mechanisms.
