Abstract

Keeping in view the role played by dielectric properties in ion conduction behaviour of electrolytes, the present paper deals with dielectric investigations in PVA based gel electrolytes. In the present work, dielectric properties of the gel electrolytes based on PVA and PVA–PEG prepared in NH4SCN (ammonium thiocyanate) solution have been studied in the temperature range 273–373 K over the frequency range 40 Hz–100 KHz. Conductivity (σ), segmental (α) and dipolar (β) relaxation have been observed in temperature and frequency dependent studies of dielectric loss. The relaxation time for these processes seems to follow Arrhenius nature with energy of activation being quite low in comparison to solvent free PVA–NH4SCN complexes.
