Abstract

CdS microcrystal-doped lead silicate glasses were prepared by the conventional fusion and heat-treatment method. Utilizing the Maker fringe method, Second-harmonic generation (SHG) was observed from CdS doped glasses both before and after certain thermal/electrical poling. For glasses containing CdSmicrocrystals without any poling treatments, SHG was derived from the polarized electric dipole layer in the quantum dots by the external laser field. For the poled samples, a larger SH intensity has been obtained than that of the samples without any poling treatments. It was considered that the distortion of the orthogonal CdS in the anode surface layer caused by the applied dc field increased the SH intensity. Also, the SH intensity gets enhanced by increasing the poling temperature and voltage.
