Abstract
In this work we calculate the magnetocaloric effect in the doped compounds (R1−cαRcη)Ni2, where Rα and Rη stand for rare earth elements. The calculated isothermal entropy change and the adiabatic temperature change upon variations of the applied magnetic field, for the compounds (Er1−cDyc)Ni2 and (Tb1−cHoc)Ni2 are in good agreement with the available experimental data. We also propose a composite material based on the doped compound (Tb1−cHoc)Ni2 to work as magnetic refrigerant in the temperature range between 15 and 35 K.
