Abstract

A comparative study of undoped, Cr doped and Mg, Cr codoped LiNbO3 single crystals was carried out. Phase identification was done using the powder XRD technique. The crystalline perfection of codoped crystals was monitored using the high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) technique. Optical transmission studies showed prominent absorption bands in the visible region of the spectrum centered at 480 and 653 nm in Cr doped crystals while Mg, Cr codoped LiNbO3 crystals also consist of two broad absorption bands, centered at 517 nm and 678 nm. The peak position of OH− ions shift to 2829 nm for Mg doped crystals compared to 2870 nm for undoped and Cr doped crystals.
