•The Dy–Co–Si section contains the nine known and five new ternary compounds.•New compounds the DyCo3Si2, DyCo2.56Si0.44, Dy3Co2Si7, DyCoSi3 and ∼Dy24Co14Si62.•The DyCo2.56Si0.44 and Dy3Co2Si3 have the Curie points of 165 and 17 K, respectively.•At 41 K DyCo2.56Si0.44 shows the second magnetic transition.•The Dy3Co2Si7 has the Neel point of 10 K.
X-ray phase analysis and microprobe analysis were employed in constructing the isothermal section of the Dy–Co–Si system at 870/1070 K. The isothermal section contains the known BaCd11-type DyCo8.5Si2.5, LaCo9Si4-type DyCo9Si4, CeGa2Al2-type DyCo2Si2, Lu2Co3Si5-type Dy2Co3Si5, TiNiSi-type DyCoSi, Hf3Ni2Si3-type Dy3Co2Si3, Sc2CoSi2-type Dy2CoSi2, CeNiSi2-type DyCo1…0.75Si2, Dy3Co2.2Si1.8-type Dy3Co2.2Si1.8 and new CeCo3B2-type DyCo3Si2, CeNi3-type DyCo2.56Si0.44, La3Co2Sn7-type Dy3Co2Si7, BaNiSn3-type DyCoSi3 ternary compounds and compounds with unknown type structure ∼DyCoSi3 and ∼Dy24Co14Si62.The ternary solid solution based on the binary compounds of the Dy–Co system (excepting Dy3Co), AlB2-type DyCo1.67 and ThSi2-type DySi2, were detected in the isothermal section at 870/1070 K. The other binary compounds of the Dy–Co–Si system do not show any visible solubility. The DyCo2.56Si0.44 and Dy3Co2Si3 phases show ferromagnetic ordering at 165 and 17 K. At 41 K DyCo2.56Si0.44 demonstrates second magnetic transition. The Dy3Co2Si7 has the Neel point 10 K.
