Abstract
The phase equilibria of Zr–Cu–Al ternary system at 1273 K and 1373 K have been experimentally determined by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). A new phase named τ10 was first found at 1373 K. The established isothermal sections are characterized by a series of ternary compounds and solid solutions. The newly determined phase equilibria in this system will provide important information for the development of Zr–Cu–Al base bulk metallic glasses.
► Two isothermal sections of the Zr-Cu-Al system were experimentally determined. ► A new phase named τ10 was firstly found at 1373 K. ► A liquid phase region was found at the Zr-riched corner.
