Abstract
⺠New ternary phases EuZn2âxGa2+x, EuZn2âxAl2+x, Eu2Zn14.32Al2.68 and Eu3Zn17.68Al4.32 have been synthesized at 400 °C. They crystallize in known structure types, namely, BaAl4 (space group I4/mmm), Th2Zn17 (space group R3¯m) and Ce3Zn22 (space group I41/amd). ⺠Representatives of BaAl4-type, namely EuZn1.25Al2.75 and EuZnGa3, order ferromagnetically below 25 K and 14 K, respectively, due to the presence of divalent Eu ions. ⺠The Eu2Zn14.3Al2.7 and Eu3Zn17.7Al4.3 phases form with Eu2+ ions and possibly order antiferromagnetically at the lowest temperatures investigated.
