Abstract

In order to improve the deformability, TiAl alloys are usually placed in a pack during hot forging. The optimization of pack parameters for hot forging of TiAl alloys was studied by using a Deform3D software and experiments. The effective stress, strain and temperature distribution of billets were simulated. Results show that, with the increment of the thickness of the pack, although the deformation uniformity is improved, the maximum effective strain and stress are reduced. When the thickness of the pack increases to a critical value, its effect on the temperature distribution is not obvious; by using thermal insulation at billet ends, homogeneous distributions of the temperature and the effective strain can be obtained. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experiments.
