Abstract
We have used Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction to study the influence of Si addition to Fe75Al25, Fe70Al30 and Fe60Al40 compositions without changing the iron content of the alloy. Si/Al substitution in Fe–Al–Si alloys changes the magnetism of the alloys. Depending on the Fe composition this change can be very drastic. Fe–Al alloys around 30 at.%Al compositions show a very interesting magnetic behaviour that changes drastically by addition of Si. Both alloys have similar cubic structures; therefore, this study is useful to understand the magnetism of Fe–Al alloys.
