Abstract
In present work, the valence electron structures (VESs) of Al3Ti and Al3Sc are studied by employing the empirical electron theory of solids and molecules (EET), giving theoretical explanation on the different morphologies of Al3Ti and Al3Sc in aluminum alloys. It is demonstrated by experiments that Al3Ti grows to a needle-like shape because of its anisotropy of VES, while Al3Sc has a symmetrical morphology for its high-degree symmetry of VES. Besides, Al3Ti gets a larger size than Al3Sc because of their different VESs.
