Abstract
⺠The growth style and the structure of TiAlN based coatings were altered by interlayers. ⺠Cr interlayer showed better diffusion to substrate compared with Ti interlayer. ⺠The coating on Cr interlayer performed better adhesion, and the hardness of TiAlN on Cr interlayer increases. ⺠Si element changed the growth style and the structure of the TiAlN coating.
